Enrages Outside the Jungle
Plantera enrages if you leave the Underground Jungle. She becomes faster and deals significantly more damage. Build your arena inside the Jungle biome.
Preparation
- Armor: Hallowed Armor is the minimum. Chlorophyte Armor is better if you can mine it. Turtle Armor is excellent for melee players.
- Weapons: Megashark with Chlorophyte Bullets (homing, excellent for kiting), Daedalus Stormbow with Holy Arrows (still effective), Golden Shower + Magical Harp for mages, Terra Blade for melee.
- Accessories: Wings (essential), Lightning Boots, Star Veil, Ankh Shield if you have it. Chlorophyte Bullets are highly recommended for the homing effect.
- Potions: Ironskin, Regeneration, Endurance, Swiftness, Lifeforce. Wrath/Rage if available.
Arena Setup
The arena is the most important part of this fight. Find a large natural cave in the Underground Jungle or excavate one:
- Clear a vertical shaft about 70 blocks high and 50 blocks wide.
- Place platforms every 10-15 blocks for vertical movement.
- Campfires, Heart Lanterns, and Star-in-a-Bottles every 30 blocks.
- Honey pools (stand in honey for life regen) at the bottom of the arena.
- Remove any nearby Plantera Bulbs to avoid accidental double-spawns.
Strategy
Phase 1 —Plantera's Hooks
Plantera fires three long hooks that latch onto walls and pull her around. She also shoots seeds and poisonous spores:
- Circle around the arena in a wide loop. The hooks are easier to dodge if you're moving perpendicular to them.
- Kite Plantera through the center of the arena. Don't let her corner you.
- Chlorophyte Bullets (homing) let you focus on dodging while dealing constant damage.
- Destroy the Spores as they appear —they explode into poisonous clouds.
Phase 2 —Spinning Form
At 50% HP, Plantera transforms into a spiky spinning form. She loses the hooks but gains speed and defense. She charges rapidly:
- Keep your distance. Plantera's spinning form has short range but high damage.
- Use the vertical platforms to change direction quickly.
- Homing weapons are even more important in this phase since Plantera moves faster.
- Heal early —don't wait until you're below 200 HP. The charge attack can hit for over 100 damage.
Expert Mode
In Expert, Plantera shoots Ichor (reduces your defense) and spawns more Seeds. Bring a Bezoar or Ankh Shield. The spinning phase is significantly faster. Use a longer arena and abuse vertical mobility.
Rewards —What's Worth Your Time
- Temple Key (100%) —Essential. Drops every time. Unlocks the Jungle Temple doors, giving you access to the Golem boss and Lihzahrd power cells.
- Wings (14.3%) —Worth farming. Plantera drops one of six wing types. They're excellent for this stage of the game and often better than what you can craft.
- Grenade Launcher (16.7%) —Fun but ammo-hungry. The Rocket upgrades are better.
- Seedling (Master) —Cute pet Plantera that follows you. Cosmetic.
